The Day My Dream Died is a dark fantasy novel taking place in a world where some people have the ability to access a dream realm, known as the undermind, that reflects the reality of their strange world. In the undermind, creatures called fiends prey on the defenseless minds of those people who cannot access the undermind themselves. Those who can access it, known as dwellers, are relied upon to protect those who cannot protect themselves. The main story follows Lise Niulan, a young dweller, as she pursues her runaway sister whom she suspects is being hounded by fiends. During her pursuit, Lise must work through the wreckage left in her younger sister's wake and confront many new and old realities. Dreams aren't as separate from reality as we might hope; people are suddenly being killed by fiends at a rate not seen in recorded history and even dwellers struggle just to survive in the face of horrors previously inconceivable.

The planet this story takes place on is known by many of its peoples as Komalle. It is a planet whose life may seem a little surreal, owing to the fact that a single, full day/night cycle takes longer to complete than 410 of our days and nights. They count days like we count years. Broken into 4 quadrants of 10 weeks of 10 cycles of 10 hours of 100 minutes of 100 seconds. Lise is 18 nights old at the beginning of her journey, the rough equivalent of 23 years old in our world.
